2010 NYS History Day T-Shirt Design Contest

New York State History Day, and its statewide sponsor, the New York State Historical Association, are pleased to announce a t-shirt design contest for the 2009-2010 program year. Current and former students, teachers and parents are invited to submit an original design for the front of a t-shirt by Friday, February 26, 2010. The winning design will be featured on a t-shirt at the 2010 New York State History Day contest.

Prizes

• The winning design will be featured on a t-shirt that will be available for purchase at the 2010 New York State History Day contest in Cooperstown, NY.


• In addition, the winner will receive a cash prize of $100.


• Although there is only one winner, other top designs may be featured on t-shirts and other promotional materials at the New York State History Day contest and/or online store: http://www.cafepress.com/nyshd

Design Guidelines
Your design:

• Should be inspired by National History Day and/or New York State History Day.


• Can not contain information on a specific annual theme.


• Should include the words “New York State History Day.”


• Should be something that a boy, girl, man or woman would want to wear, even if they don’t know much about History Day.


• Must be an original work and can not contain trademarks, copyrighted works, intellectual property, names, likenesses or images of any real person or entity.


• Should be created using computer software, such as Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, etc. If you use another means to make your design (for example, hand drawing), you must provide print-ready computer files of the design.


• Should contain a maximum of four colors. You must also indicate your preferred shirt color (or colors) with your submission.


• Can be for the front of the shirt only, and must fit within a 10” wide x 13” high rectangular area.

Submission Information

• Entry is open to all current or former students, teachers or parents who have participated in New York State History Day. Entries from students under the age of 18 must be accompanied by parent/guardian permission/release.


• Any submitted design becomes the property of New York State History Day/New York State Historical Association. However, entrant/designer will be credited for the design as applicable.


• By submitting a design, you agree that it can be used by New York State History Day/New York State Historical Association on a t-shirt and/or other promotional items.


• New York State History Day/New York State Historical Association reserves the right to make adjustments to any submitted design before publication.

Entries will be judged by the staff of the New York State Historical Association.

How to Submit a Design

• All designs must be submitted via email to nyshistoryday@nysha.org by Friday, February 26, 2010. Late entries will not be accepted.


• Designs must be in PDF format, with a maximum file size of 5 MB.


• Email text must include the following information: Name; Age; Home Address, City, State, Zip; Preferred email address; Preferred phone number


• If entrant is under 18 years old, please also include: Name of parent/guardian; Email address of parent/guardian; Daytime phone of parent/guardian


• Lastly, please also indicate your relationship to New York State History Day (i.e. participating student, teacher, parent, former participant, etc.),


• And a brief description of/explanation about the design (100 words or less)


• The winning design will be announced via the New York State History Day website, blog and Facebook page on Friday, March 5, 2010.
